DISGUISED FIREARMS - AN INCREASING THREAT
Disguised firearms 'an increasing threat' Guns that are disguised to look like normal household items are an increasing threat, according to a spokesman for the National Criminal Intelligence Service. Pens that shoot bullets, cigarette packets containing miniature pistols and mobile phones concealing lethal fire power sound like something dreamed up by the fictional Q for top spy James Bond. But the National Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS) says it is reality and has put together a dossier to prove it. The file details the many different ways firearms are known to be disguised and is being translated and distributed to every country in the European Union. An NCIS spokesman says the aim is to alert Customs and police officers to the existence of the weapons so they can spot and stop them more effectively. He said: "These weapons are not terribly accurate but they can unleash a lethal round which could kill you. "They are quite easy to get hold of - they come mostly from Central and Eastern Europe - and the movement of these weapons is right across Europe. "There are not millions of them being found but they have been found and it's an increasing trend."
